The Music Educator of the Year Award will recognize and honor outstanding music educators who instill and inspire a love of music in students.

Fort Wayne Philharmonic Classroom Educator of the Year Sponsored by Sweetwater
The Classroom Educator of the Year Award will recognize and honor outstanding educators who use music to enhance and further the curriculum for students and successfully integrate music with other core academic subjects.

All nominees will be given complimentary tickets to the April 19, 2008 Fort Wayne Philharmonic Masterworks Concert featuring Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 2 and pianist Orli Shaham performing Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1.    

The two award winners will receive the following prizes:

• $500 cash prize to award winners
• $500 cash allowance to winners' school for music resources
• Recognition from the stage at the April 19 concert and in the Philharmonic Program Book
• Tickets to the April 19 concert for 30 students and the person who submitted the nomination
• Dinner for two with a member of the Philharmonic Board of Directors before the April 19 Concert
• Banner for the educator's school and plaque for the educator's classroom
• Philharmonic ensemble performance for the educator's classroom
• Season subscription to the Philharmonic for two (any series during the 2008-2009 season)

Instructions :   Each nominee must be an educator currently employed in a public, parochial or private school in grades K-12 in the Fort Wayne Philharmonic's 12 county service area. Teachers may be nominated by students, parents, other teachers, principals or school administrators. Previous award recipients are not eligible. Nomination packets are due by March 1, 2008 and must include:

1. Completed Nomination Form
2. Nomination Narrative
3. Any additional documentation supporting this nomination (materials may not be returned)

Nomination Narrative Questions:

1. Describe why this nominee should receive the award.
2. Provide a general description of the nominee's teaching and reasons why the nominee is an outstanding educator in the specific award category. (e.g.: Music educator: describe music teaching activities. Classroom educator: describe how they integrate music into other curricular activities). Please include type of program, number of years of service, number of students impacted and music learning outcomes.
3. How does the nominee's teaching impact the students, the school and the community?
